Flow of the partially molten crust in the Variscan foreland revealed by U–Th–Pb dating of metamorphism, magmatism and deformation (Agly Massif, Eastern Pyrenees)

In this contribution, we investigate the spatial and temporal evolution of mid-crustal flow in Agly Massif (North Pyrenean Zone) that represents southern foreland Variscan orogenic plateau. Massif, middle crust is represented by an Ediacarian–Devonian series metasedimentary rocks recorded high-grade metamorphism synchronously with crustal thinning (D2) dextral wrenching (D3) during Carboniferous. D2 formed a penetrative S2 flat-lying foliation localized C2 extensional shear zones top-to-the-North kinematics. planar fabrics are deformed D3 transpression into two-kilometer wide high-strain zone. We performed LA-ICPMS U–Th–Pb dating on zircon monazite from small magmatic bodies metamorphic showing strain features relative to and/or D3. Our results, compiled published data, argue reached high-temperature suprasolidus conditions at ca. 325–320 Ma was partially molten until 300 Ma. They also indicate top-to-the north shearing active 325–290 extension were synchronous 308–290 Making comparison Axial Zone, Montagne Noire French Central propose two-step tectonic model for horizontal towards South both plateau forelands between 325 310 locally reoriented E–W longitudinal strike-slip domains.
